[28] John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. [28] You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ,’ but, I have been sent before Him.’” – John 3:27-28 (NKJV)
Back in Jesus’ days, there was no social media, internet or even mobile phones. Every medium of transferring information was local. But people liked talking so much. The spread of information by word of mouth was rampant, and public figures were usually under scrutiny. One of them was John the Baptist.
When Jesus’ ministry was constantly blossoming, people started comparing John to Jesus. They came to question whether John was the Messiah or not. And he told them that he has already said he’s not the Messiah, but the one sent before Him. So, John the Baptist, although he had already told people that he was not the Christ, still had people question him. Today, that thing hasn’t changed. Many still like to taunt people about questions they have already replied to and still aren’t satisfied. For me, I’ve realised that I cannot live giving my time to just anybody who wants it, although it’s my mandate to help others also.
Dear one, define who you are not. Don’t let the pressure to say what people like make you say something you do not stand for. The world’s currency for doing illegitimate things is compromise. So, as a child of God, beware of that. May the Lord guide and train you to be self-controlled in your speech.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, for giving me a divine identity that makes me stable in who I am. Help me stand up for integrity and reject all forms of compromise from the world. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
