[43] “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. [44] Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. [45] Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” – Matthew 12:43-45 (NKJV)
“Give no space to the devil” is a short scriptural instruction written in Ephesians 4:27. Many times, people, including myself, have used it in relation to dealing with anger since anger is what the scriptural context this scripture got written (see Ephesians 4:26). But I was studying the Bible days before writing this devotional and caught the revelation of this same principle being used by Jesus in Matthew 12:43-45.
In that verse, Jesus explained that it is not enough to cast out an unclean spirit from a person. After deliverance and getting the person back in order, the next thing is to get every part of the person’s life well-occupied with God’s Word (mainly through discipleship) and work. Think about this. When a demon is cast out from a person, but the person doesn’t get himself occupied in Christ, there is enough space for that same demon to come back and afflict the person, this time, with seven other demons more wicked than the first one. Imagine that!
That is where those in the deliverance ministry have more workload. If you are a pastor and you’ve experienced God using you to deliver one person from a particular demon several times, it’s not because you aren’t doing your work well. Instead, that delivered person is giving space to the devil to continue manipulating the person’s life, which you must let the person know.
Can I tell you something? Seal every part of your life with the work and Word of God. Leave no area unattended. If you are working, be diligent. And if you are married, be a good spouse there, too. Whatever you add to your life, organise it well to oversee every area of it. May God help you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, in the name of Jesus, help me seal every part of my life with You. May I give no space to the devil to cause havoc in my life. Amen!
