Be Faithful in Prayer

[12] “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 (NIV)

Many people, including myself, have been taught from infancy to embrace prayer as a way to connect to God, which is good. But as I kept growing spiritually in the knowledge of the things of God, I realised that sometimes, prayer isn’t just about connecting to God but also a work to be faithful in. Do you remember Epaphras in the Bible? The Bible says he was labouring fervently in prayer for the Colossian church (see Colossians 4:12). If prayer isn’t work, why would the word “labour” be used in such a scripture? Think about that.

In Romans 12:12, the Bible states that believers in Christ should be faithful in prayer. Now, to understand this more comprehensively, let’s look at the meaning of the word “faithful.” According to Strong’s Concordance, “faithful,” as used in Romans 12:12, means to persevere or be constantly diligent. It takes diligence to make any work progressive, right? So, how sharpened your prayer life is or ever will be requires work; the earlier you understand this, the better.

If God has given you the privilege to be faithful in coming to Him in prayer and interceding for others, then there is work to do on your part to keep the fire on your altar burning. Don’t think you’ll draw near to God without putting in much effort. No! It does not work like that. Get up and make time every day to pray.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me to be faithful in prayer every day of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
