[29] “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. [30] But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” [31] Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” – Matthew 14:29-31 (NIV)
Did you know that doubt is a brother of distraction? In other words, doubt sets in when you are distracted from focusing on the Word God has released upon your life. That didn’t start happening today, but way back in scripture.
Jesus was walking on the water as He approached the disciples. Peter said that if it were Him, He should bid him (Peter) to walk on the water and meet Him. Then, Jesus said, “Come”! Just one word. So, Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, coming toward Jesus. He started well by walking on the water. But he didn’t end well because he got distracted by the wind. Then, Peter cried out, “Lord save me!”.
After Jesus reached out His hand and saved him, He didn’t say, “Why were you distracted”? No! He said, “You of little faith,” … “Why did you doubt?” Peter’s distraction created his doubts. So, from this, distractions from focusing on God’s Word of truth open the way for doubts to set in. And if you don’t deal with it, it can affect your productivity with God’s Word. Get out of your comfort zone and believe what God has said concerning your life without wavering.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, keep my eyes fixed on the Word You have said in my life and in Your Word, no curve, no bend. So I can use it to impact many lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
